THE MAGENTA HEALTH ONBOARDING PROCESS

A Structured Approach

At Magenta Health, our support starts well before your first day. Even if you’ve never practiced in Toronto, Ontario, or elsewhere in Canada, our team provides the guidance and resources to prepare you for a smooth transition into patient care.

Our structured onboarding approach is designed to accommodate different learning styles and provide you with the right information at the right time.

It includes an extensive, formal process before seeing patients, along with scheduled follow-ups during the first six months to help new physicians feel confident and supported.

Depending on physician needs, we walk you through:

  • The general practice landscape for our region

  • External resources you need to connect with to start work

  • Additional helpful resources (e.g., SCOPE, OTNHub, Connecting Ontario)

  • Different technology tools used in daily activities at Magenta Health

  • Using the EMR — We use a highly customized version of OSCAR, which is central to daily work and our <Better Care/> campaign

  • The new patient intake process

This structure ensures you’re introduced to essential systems before your first day. We work with you step by step to get you ready and comfortable for practice, deliberately scheduling certain information to come after your start date, so learning a new system feels manageable.

As a new physician, you’ll have a primary trainer to guide you through your first several months. We also make sure you always know who to reach out to for different topics and have a dedicated point of contact for any questions

We schedule early check-ins at:

  • The first day

  • First week

  • Second week

  • First month

  • Third month

  • Sixth month

Beyond check-ins, we also hold quarterly MD meetings to share announcements, reminders, and discuss key topics.

Mentorship and Check-Ins

A proven track record

At Magenta Health, we’ve supported the birth and growth of 35+ practices from scratch and have extensive experience working with physicians moving to Canada from different jurisdictions.

Our team continually iterates and improves our processes, ensuring physicians at all stages receive ongoing guidance and tools designed to support longevity and prevent burnout.

If you’re new to practice, we provide built-in mentorship so you’re never on this journey alone. Read more about our integrated support systems here.

While our structured onboarding sets you up for success, our community of colleagues is happy to provide informal support along the way. Our open co-working spaces make it easy to ask questions, collaborate, and learn from your colleagues.

Beyond the clinic, we’re actively engaged in the East Toronto Family Practice Network (EasT-FPN), a non-profit we helped establish. The network supports our local community, co-designs better health delivery systems, and helps ensure primary care is at the heart of patient care and physician collaboration.
