<Better Care/>
for you and Canadians everywhere
WHY THIS IS IMPORTANT
Canada’s healthcare system is facing a challenge. Family doctors want to deliver excellent care – but many are stuck using outdated, 1990s-era software that slows them down and adds hours of admin work every week. This impacts access, quality, and patient experience.
At Magenta Health, we're collaborating to change this.
OUR SOLUTION
We support a freely-available and shared, open-source Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system used by thousands of family doctors across Canada. Our physicians and development staff contribute real fixes and improvements – making the tools better for everyone.
The founders and physicians at Magenta Health already voluntarily invest $100,000/year to support this work. Our goal is to grow this to $400,000/year, so we can keep building tools that make care safer, faster, and more patient-focused.
WHY YOUR HELP MATTERS
The software is freely available and critically important. It’s the backbone of every visit, every referral, every prescription! But, like many other open-source technologies so critical to our modern life, it's overlooked and underfunded.
You can help change that. Join our Circle of Supporters and help build better tools for better care. Even $5/month makes a meaningful difference.
Your support helps:
Give clinicians better tools so they can focus more on you
Deliver improvements that are freely shared across Canada (An example)
Strengthen our publicly funded healthcare system
100% of your contribution goes directly toward improving the open-source EMR used by family doctors — at Magenta Health and across the country.
A NOTE FROM OUR CO-FOUNDER
Keith Chung is one of the founders of Magenta Health, and currently leads its IT efforts.
“I left law and finance to work on fixing healthcare — starting with the software that doctors rely on every day. This isn’t just about tech; it’s about making care more accessible, more human, and more sustainable. If you’re able to help, thank you.”

Canada has more family doctors per capita than ever but “half of Canadians either don’t have a family doctor (19%) or struggle to see the one they have (29%)” (Angus Reid) because they spend more time per patient / patient visit than they used to (PubMed, TheStar).
We partly blame the software family doctors need to use. It’s 1990s software not built for the always connected world of today. We think it drives the 18 million hours a year doctors spend on unnecessary administrative work (CFIB), why medical students aren’t interested in becoming family doctors, mid career family doctors leave entirely, and those closer to retirement retire early (OMA).
We are working with a coalition of family doctors across the country to collaborate on improving this software.
Because it’s shared and freely available, we already fund a full-time software developer to provide better care for you and Canadians everywhere.
We think more of this work needs to happen. We can’t do it alone. We are asking those in our community to help if they can.

This software is already used to care for millions of Canadians.
It’s known as “open source” software that is shared and developed by a community together.
It’s the third most popular system used by thousands of family doctors in Canada!
Magenta Health and its physicians already effectively contribute more than $100,000 annually towards this software development.
