Optional: Support <Better Care/>

Magenta Health believes better tools and better processes help deliver better care. We use and support a freely-available and shared, open-source Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system used by thousands of family doctors across Canada. Our physicians and development staff contribute real fixes and improvements, making the tools better for everyone.

We are inviting patients who can readily afford to do so to contribute toward ongoing technology improvements through our <Better Care/> campaign. Read more below.

If you’re not able to contribute financially, that’s okay! There are many no-cost ways that you can support as well!

Consider making a Contribution today

  • Send an e-Transfer to contribute@magentahealth.ca‍ for an amount of your choosing.

Please note - this email address is not monitored, but emails will be automatically added to our <Better Care/> mailing list to receive periodic updates.

  • Small monthly contributions provide predictable funding for EMR maintenance, privacy patches, and short development sprints that make appointments faster and communications clearer. Visit our Patreon site to join our Circle of Supporters.

  • If you’re not able to contribute financially, that’s okay! There are many no-cost ways that you can help with <Better Care/>!

Please note: Contributions are voluntary and not eligible for a tax receipt.

  • There is no dedicated public funding for the kind of continuous software improvements we need in primary care. Our physicians already invest time and money, and we fund specific projects through grants and partnerships when possible, for example through government innovation programs that support digital health or medical student research.

However, these grants are limited in scope, often one time, and typically restricted to very specific initiatives. They do not cover the ongoing, everyday work required to keep improving the systems that power our clinics.

Community contributions help fill that gap. They allow us to move faster on practical upgrades that patients and clinicians feel every day, such as quicker check-ins, faster results, fewer clicks, and better privacy safeguards.

Where your contribution goes: 100% of patient contributions go to technology work on the open-source Electronic Medical Record (EMR) platform that we use in our clinic every day. The EMR is the backbone of the clinic and because it’s open-source, other clinics across Canada that use the same platform also benefit from these improvements!

  • Why focus on technology?

Modern primary care depends on good digital tools. When software gets better, visits run smoother, follow-ups are more reliable, and communication is clearer. We continue this work regardless, but contributions to <Better Care/> help us take on more improvements quicker, for more patients.

    Is a contribution mandatory?

No. Contributions are completely optional. Your care will never be affected by whether you contribute. Your clinician will not know whether you have contributed.

Can I get care without supporting this?

Yes. Nothing about your access to care changes. This is simply an invitation to partner with us if you are able and interested.

  • What happens to my contribution?

Examples of the types of improvements your support for <Better Care/> helps fund:

    • Faster, more reliable lab result workflows

    • Secure patient communications that protect your privacy

    • Small usability fixes that reduce clicks and free up clinician time

    How much should I give?

Any amount helps. Some supporters prefer a small monthly contribution, for example $5, $15, or $30 per month. Others prefer a one time contribution to show their appreciation. Please choose what fits your situation.
